Reinventing Romeo and Juliet
For this project, we were put into groups of 4-6. In my group was Eli Steria, Macy Dillenbeck, and Zach Schroeder. Overall, I had a good time working with my group. We did have conflicts, but we worked through them. The main issue within my group was that we had a hard time staying on track and making sure that everything was completed on time. For this project I was in charge of most of the writing and sketches. I created sketch drafts as well as final sketches of both costumes for our play and set designs for our play. I wrote reflections for all of these pieces as well as two reflections for both lighting collages that were created. I did not create the costumes however, I put articles of clothing together to build them from pre-existing clothes. I also created a blueprint of an atom bomb, a poster explaining the atom bomb, and a transformation of how the technology used in the atom bomb could also be used for good. Throughout the course of this project I learned a lot about world conflicts throughout history. I learned mostly about Stalin's Russia, the Civil War, and the Paraguayan conflict. I also learned how to create the different aspect that come together to make a production, as well as learning how to think in the eyes of a producer for a play. I learned a lot about the physics behind an atom bomb and how magnetic fields can be used to contain plasma. I think the presentation went really well on the night of exhibition. I think everyone in my group was really knowledgeable about what they were talking about and we were all very professional. The biggest challenge I had was making sure that while I was focusing on my work, that my groupmates were also staying on top of their work so that everything would be done when it needed to be. As far as work ethic goes, I think the costumes I brought in were quite successful. I did not make them myself, but I did put the right articles of clothing together to create a life sized costume for two of our characters. I need to improve on making sure that my work isn't sloppy and that I take more time on it. For example, I would do the costume sketches neatly the first time so that I didn't need to do several drafts. For the Humanities section of this project I mostly learned about world conflicts, like I mentioned earlier, such as Stalin's Russia, Paraguay, the Civil War, and the Holocaust. Another new thing I learned, that I thought was really interesting, was how to think like a producer for a play would think. For example, in one of the first draft of my group's scenic model, we were planning to have two scenes that would be on wheels and would spin around, but then there was the problem about having enough stage space to do that. I wouldn't usually have thought about it that way, but it's important to think about those things when you are producing a play. I wish that we would've been able to go more into depth about more of the conflicts. I know some of the basics of some of the conflicts, but there are a lot that I am interested in that I didn't get the chance to learn more about. In the physics portion of this project I learned a lot about nuclear fission and how atom bombs work due to chain reactions of splitting the nuclei of atoms. I also learned about how we can contain nuclear fusion to use as an energy source, which I found to be really cool and interesting. I wish I could have explored more about my group mates' weapons and how the physics behind theirs worked. Good and evil are defined differently by each individual. I believe that the battle between good and evil is ongoing and may never end, but good will over rule evil sometimes, and sometimes evil will over rule good. Man can learn from mistakes in the past, but people are people and everybody makes mistakes that are often repeated.
