An Examination of Revenge and Forgiveness
For this assignment we were looking at examples through history of forgiveness and revenge. Some examples we looked at were articles discussing the events of the Mary and Oshea case, Dachau, the Reginald Denny case and The Tempest by William Shakespeare. During the process of looking at these moments in history, we would be having silent discussions on sheets of paper discussing significant quotes and regarding what it meant to be forgiven, what it meant to take revenge ,etc... We did this for several days and after having time to reflect, we were to create claims as groups as to weather revenge or forgiveness was the better option. After the claims were cleaned up and revised, everyone got to choose which claim they would want to defend in a socratic seminar. The claim I supported in this seminar was "Time results in forgiveness which always has a more positive outcome than taking revenge".
